Every summer, Vision-Aid's annual production reminds audiences that the performing arts can do far more than entertain—they can preserve history, strengthen communities, and transform lives.
This year, the nonprofit returns with what promises to be one of its most ambitious productions yet: "Brothers in Arms: The Lions of Sivaganga," a Broadway-style historical dance spectacular that will take center stage on Sunday, July 26, 2026, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Collins Center for the Performing Arts in Andover, Massachusetts.
For many Indian-American families across Massachusetts and New England, Vision-Aid's annual fundraiser has become one of the region's signature cultural events—an evening where exceptional artistry is paired with a meaningful cause. Every ticket purchased helps Vision-Aid continue its mission of enabling, educating, and empowering people with visual impairment to live with independence and dignity.

π° Reviving Sivaganga's Legacy
Long before India's independence movement became a nationwide struggle, the Marudhu Brothers and Queen Velu Nachiar were writing one of its earliest chapters.
The rulers of the Sivaganga kingdom in present-day Tamil Nadu mounted a determined resistance against British colonial rule during the late eighteenth century. Queen Velu Nachiar is widely recognized for organizing one of India's earliest women's military forces, while the Marudhu Brothers became symbols of courage, strategic leadership, and unwavering patriotism.
"Brothers in Arms" brings this remarkable story to life through the eyes of a remorseful British Colonel, offering audiences a thoughtful perspective on sacrifice, honor, resilience, and the enduring spirit of those who refused to surrender their homeland.
Rather than presenting history as a lesson, the production transforms it into a compelling theatrical experience that resonates with audiences across generations.
π A Celebration of Dance and Storytelling
History unfolds not through lengthy dialogue but through the expressive language of movement, music, and visual storytelling.
The production seamlessly blends the grace of Bharatanatyam, the elegance of Kathak, vibrant Indian folk dances, ballroom-inspired choreography, dramatic theater, and original musical compositions into a Broadway-style presentation that is both visually stunning and emotionally engaging.
This fusion of classical traditions and contemporary theatrical techniques creates an immersive experience that appeals equally to seasoned lovers of Indian performing arts and first-time audiences.
π¨ Artistic Excellence Behind the Production
Leading the production is Kalaimamani Guru Madurai R. Muralidaran, an internationally acclaimed Bharatanatyam exponent, choreographer, composer, and musician whose contributions to Indian classical dance span decades. Renowned for creating hundreds of original compositions and innovative dance dramas, he brings extraordinary artistic depth and vision to the stage.
Supporting him are Artistic Directors Jeyanthi Ghatraju and Sripriya Natarajan Moorthy, whose dedication has helped shape Vision-Aid's annual productions into some of New England's most anticipated cultural fundraisers.
Since 2009, these productions have demonstrated how classical dance can become a powerful medium for community service, education, and philanthropy.
β
π€ Where Dance Meets Service
Beyond its artistic brilliance, the annual production serves a larger purpose.
Every performance directly supports Vision-Aid's programs that provide education, assistive technology, rehabilitation, vocational training, and independent living resources for people with visual impairment.
As Vision-Aid's mission states, the organization is dedicated to "enabling, educating, and empowering" individuals with visual impairment to lead lives of independence and dignity.
For attendees, an evening at the theater becomes an opportunity to contribute to meaningful social impact while experiencing world-class cultural performance.
β
π An Evening That Leaves a Lasting Impression
Vision-Aid's annual productions have become more than cultural showcases—they are celebrations of heritage, volunteerism, and generosity.
"Brothers in Arms: The Lions of Sivaganga" honors forgotten heroes of history while recognizing today's community heroes: the choreographers, performers, volunteers, sponsors, and supporters whose dedication helps improve the lives of countless individuals living with visual impairment.
As audiences witness the inspiring story of courage and sacrifice unfold on stage, they also become part of a larger story—one where art preserves history, strengthens communities, and creates brighter futures.
In bringing together history, culture, philanthropy, and community service, Vision-Aid once again demonstrates that the most powerful performances are those that leave an impact long after the curtain falls.
